Welcome to the XuFancheng Culture Study Center, a hub dedicated to the scholarly exploration of Professor Xu Fancheng’s remarkable academic contributions. Established with a fervent commitment to advancing cultural exchanges between India,China and Eurasian nations, the center stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of Professor XuFancheng. The center was inaugurated on October 26, 2020, by the Chinese Ambassador to India, H.E Sun Weidong. This date marked the auspicious occasion of Professor Xu Fancheng’s 111th anniversary and coincided with the 70th year of cultural and diplomatic ties between these two nations.

Our Mission

Promote a deeper understanding and appreciation of the rich cultural heritage of both India and China, and foster greater cultural exchange and cooperation between the two nations.

The Center is named after the Chinese Sanskrit scholar Xu Fancheng. Prof Xu was a prominent figure in the field of Indology, and his work has made significant contributions to the study of Indian culture and its influence on China.
Prof Xu Fancheng was a Chinese scholar, who was born in the early 20th century and was a pioneer in the study of Buddhism, and Indian culture. He studied Sanskrit in India, and later on, he translated many important works of Indian literature, philosophy and religious texts into Chinese, making them accessible to a wider audience in Chinese speaking nations. He also wrote many important works on Indian Buddhism and the impact of Indian culture on China.
Naming the centre after Xu Fancheng would honour his contributions to the field of Indology and would also serve to recognize the importance of his work in promoting cultural understanding and exchange between India and China. It will also be an inspiration for the Center’s team and an honour for his legacy, and it will bring attention to the centre and its mission, as it is named after a well-known and respected figure in the field of India-China cultural studies.

Professor Xu Fancheng, was a pioneering scholar who dedicated his life to bridging the gap between China, India and the West. His spirit of intellectual curiosity and unwavering commitment to intercultural understanding continues to be the guiding light of Xu-CSC.
