On December 21st, 2018, China and India came together in New Delhi, for the first meeting of the China-India High-level People-to-People and Cultural Exchanges Mechanism. China’s State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi and India’s External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj released “Essays in Memory of Prof. Xu Funcheng” at the China-India cultural evening.
Early this year on Jan 4th, 2020, a team of scholars led by Professor Tansen Sen, Director of the Center for Global Asia at NYU Shanghai visited Pondicherry to study the paintings of Chinese artist, Professor XuFancheng. The group, which also included two Chinese scholars, spent few days examining a collection of Professor Xu’s work, which is housed at the Sri Aurobindo ashram studio.
Xu Fancheng Culture Study Center is a cultural research and study center that is dedicated to the study of the life and work of Prof. Xu Fancheng, the Chinese translator and scholar who studied and translated ancient Indian texts. It is a non-profitable research organization whose main focus is to promote the study and understanding of the cultural heritage of India and China. The center aims to provide a platform for scholars, students, and the general public to engage with the diverse cultural traditions of both countries. Opening ceremony of the Xu Fancheng Culture Study Center marks the official inauguration of the center by the Chinese Ambassador to India H.E Sun Weidong , Shri V. Narayanasamy, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Pondicherry, and Shri K. Lakshminarayanan.
