The foundations of Chinese civilization and the facets of Chinese culture will be examined in this course on Chinese Culture and Modern China. It will pay close attention to the connections between Chinese culture and contemporary Chinese life as well as to the various cultural components that make up the current social structures, belief systems, literature, arts, rituals, etc. The course seeks to provide students with a greater understanding of Chinese culture, allowing them to comprehend China more fully.
COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course is designed to provide an introduction to the cultural relations between India and China. The course will cover the historical, religious, linguistic, artistic, and philosophical ties that have existed between these two ancient civilizations. Through a combination of lectures, readings, discussions, and multimedia resources, students will gain an understanding of the cultural exchange and influences that have shaped India-China relations over the centuries.
